Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy has died at the age of 24.
A report released by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that he had apparently taken his own life. Lacy, an NFL draft prospect, had been facing criminal charges after a fatal car accident that left a 78-year-old man dead in December.
“It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace,” Lacy’s lawyer, Matthew Ory, told ESPN.

His father, Kenny Lacy, has since taken to social media to share an important message. “Young parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you,” he wrote on Facebook. “Don’t be cool with ‘I’m all right or I’m good’ when you know deep down something isn’t right.”
He continued: “Mental health is real, and for the most part, it’s invisible, don’t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small.” He added that their “lives have changed forever”.
“This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through,” he stated. “This will never get easier, but we’ll learn to live with it.”
It’s undoubtedly going to be a difficult time for Kyren Lacy’s family who lost their son at such a young age. Here’s what we know about his parents.
Kyren Lacy’s family is from Louisiana

Lacy’s family is native to Thibodaux, Louisiana, according to Essentially Sports. They reportedly celebrate events from Christmas to Thanksgiving together and have a strong bond.
What do Kenny Lacy and Kandace Washington do for work?

Kenny is the head trainer at the BST (Blood, Sweat and Tears) Academy, according to his Facebook page, which offers basketball, baseball, and one-on-one fitness training. Washington, meanwhile, is a singer, DJ, songwriter, performer and a professional school counsellor, according to Essentially Sports. She is involved in community service and, like Kyren’s father, was a strong supporter of their son’s career.

Both of Kyren’s parents are active on socials. They have a strong following on Facebook and have shared posts about how proud they are of their children.
“Look at God! Listen I don’t encourage teen pregnancy lol but as a teen mom I did my thang!!” Washington wrote in one Facebook post. “Graduated high school plus two college degrees all while juggling being a mom! Kyren and I literally grew up together! I made lots of mistakes along the way but God was always in control! I’m patting myself on the back with this one!!”
“I’m proud of you dude. #KeepGoing #NextChapter Kyren Lacy,” Kenny shared in a sweet graduation post with his son from 2024.
Kenny Lacy and Kandace Washington appear to be divorced

One report from Essentially Sports based on an Instagram reel shared by Washington suggests that the couple are divorced. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate through this difficult time.

Besides his parents, Kyren is survived by two younger brothers, Jayden and Liam, according to his profile on Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
