It’s hard to imagine a more well-connected couple than Mario Carbone and Cait Bailey. Carbone is the man whose restaurants draw clients including Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kim Kardashian week after week. Bailey, meanwhile, has been called “a networker like no other” and been known to help out the likes of Google co-founder Sergey Brin when his pals can’t get into exclusive parties.

However, while thousands of column inches have been dedicated to the New York chef, his celebrity patrons and his US$300 steaks, much less is known about Bailey, who prefers to stay out of the headlines.

So what do we know about her? And just how did she become so influential? Here’s the low-down.
What is Cait Bailey’s backstory?

According to her profile in The New York Times, 35-year-old Bailey grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and was sent to a private Catholic school before heading south to Georgia for university. After graduating she reportedly planned to return home, “marry a lacrosse player” and raise children to go to the same school as she did. In other words, she certainly didn’t envisage the life she has now.
Her mother (sort of) chose her career

So what changed? According to The New York Times, it was her mother, Patti Caudill, who helped set her on a completely different path. Caudill decided to take part in – and won – a charity auction offering an internship at a major New York PR firm called PMK-BNC.

Bailey duly completed the internship, then managed to turn it into a full-time job. Since then, she’s climbed the ladder, working for various major corporations and up-and-coming PR companies, adds The New York Times.
What does Cait Bailey do?

These days, Bailey works for Align Public Relations and is best known for being the publicist for some of America’s most prominent TikTokkers. She started off by persuading Charli and Dixie D’Amelio to work with the agency and now represents influencer Alix Earle, Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper, and former One Direction star Zayn Malik.
She’s been compared to Margot Robbie

Looks wise, it’s hard not to do a double take at some photos of the publicist at parties or on the arm of Carbone, thinking you’re looking at Barbie star Margot Robbie. But despite being extremely photogenic, Bailey is not into being the story and would much rather her clients attracted the attention, reports say.

Her Instagram account is a case in point. She has more than 75,000 followers on the platform at the time of writing, but has shared precisely zero photographs. Even Carbone has joked about her desire to keep control of her online image. “Happy birthday to my girl,” he wrote below an Instagram birthday tribute in 2022, adding: “Disclosure: this photo hasn’t been approved by Cait so I ask that everyone pray for me.”
How did Cait Bailey meet Mario Carbone?

The power couple have Pretty Little Liars actress Shay Mitchell to thank for their meet-cute. In 2018, the actress was with Bailey when she texted her pal Mario for a last-minute reservation at Carbone in Greenwich Village, New York. There were no spots left, so the chef invited the pair to dine at his table instead and he hit it off with Bailey.

According to Page Six, the couple were engaged last summer on the Amalfi Coast, Italy and sparked rumours when Bailey was seen at New York Fashion Week sporting a “massive rock”. Carbone has said he loves that she is as ambitious and hard-working as he is. Having a partner that’s “just as passionate about what they do is a beautiful thing”, he told The New York Times. The couple are also passionate about their beloved dog, Rocco.
