Since joining Donald Trump’s administration as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk is in the headlines daily. In particular, his regular rants about DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) have turned the spotlight once more on his transgender daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson, who’s now taken it upon herself to respond just as publicly.

On March 20, Wilson launched a scathing attack on her father in an interview with Teen Vogue.
Here’s everything you need to know about Musk’s estranged 20-year-old daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson.
She doesn’t “wish to be related” to her biological father

Vivian filed to change her name and gender in 2022. In her petition, she said she wanted to drop her famous dad’s family name because she wants nothing to do with him. She wrote, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
In July 2024, Musk wrote a post on X where he referred to Vivian by her deadname, and insisted that she “was not a girl”.
“[He] was born gay and slightly autistic, two attributes that contribute to gender dysphoria. I knew that from when he was about four years old and he would pick out clothes for me to wear like a jacket and tell me it was “fabulous!” as well as his love of musicals and theatre,” Musk added.
A few days later, Vivian responded to her father’s posts on Threads, writing, “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn’t there, and in the little time that he was I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness. Obviously he can’t say that, so I’ve been reduced to a happy little stereotype f**-ing along to use at his discretion. I think that says a lot about how he views queer people and children in general.”

In the recent Teen Vogue interview, Wilson addressed the controversial Nazi salute gesture Musk made at a Trump rally in January.
“The Nazi salute s*** was insane. Honey, we’re going to call a fig a fig, and we’re going to call a Nazi salute what it was. That s*** was definitely a Nazi salute,” she said.
“But other than that, I don’t give a f*** about him. I really don’t,” she continued. “It’s annoying that people associate me with him. I just don’t have any room to care any more.”
Vivian went on to call her estranged father “a pathetic man-child” in the same interview.
Her mum is an author who Elon Musk divorced in 2008

Musk was married to Canadian author Justine Wilson for eight years between 2000 and 2008. Unfortunately they lost their first son, Nevada Alexander Musk, as an infant. In 2004, the couple welcomed twins, Vivian and her brother Griffin Musk, who were born with the help of IVF.
In 2006, the couple also had triplets named Damian, Saxon and Kai. After attempting marriage counselling, Musk divorced Justine and got engaged to British actress Talulah Riley.
Justine then wrote the article “I was a starter wife” for Marie Claire in 2010, explaining how she thought their marriage was unhealthy and that Musk had made fun of her and referred to himself “as the alpha in this relationship”.
In 2022, Justine wrote a tweet referring to her daughter’s coming out. “‘I had a weird childhood,’ my [then] 18-year-old said to me. ‘I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am.’ I said, ‘I’m very proud of you’ … ‘I’m proud of myself!’”
She attended Musk’s private school Astra Nova

In Latin, Astra Nova translates as “new stars” and is the name of Musk’s privately funded school. Built on the SpaceX campus compound, the Astra Nova School (previously known as Ad Astra) opened in 2014 soon after Musk took his children out of Los Angeles’ Mirman School for “gifted” children, per Quartz.
The private school is highly competitive to get into, with a curriculum heavy on science, maths, engineering, robotics and artificial intelligence. It reportedly has no grading system.
She wants to be on a reality show

In the Teen Vogue interview, Wilson revealed that she had initially wanted to become a translator – she’s currently living in Tokyo and studying languages, having already studied French, Spanish and Japanese.
But her goals have since changed. Now the self-proclaimed Queen of Threads wants to become a Twitch streamer or a reality TV star.
“It is my absolute dream to be on a reality show, which I know is absolutely pathetic,” Wilson told the teen mag. “As an overdramatic little queer, reality shows are something I adore beyond belief.”
She’s not close with her 13 siblings

Over the years, Musk has welcomed 14 children with four different women. Most recently, he welcomed his 14th child, son Seldon Lycurgus, with Shivon Zilis, with whom he already has three children.
When asked if she had a close relationship with her half-siblings, Wilson replied: “I will say I do not actually know how many siblings I have, if you include half-siblings. That’s just a fun fact.”

“I found out about the Shivon Zilis thing the same time everyone else did. I had no idea before that,” Vivian added. “I don’t keep up with that side of the family because … I don’t. My mum doesn’t really either.”
She’s a self-described leftist

In the same interview, Vivian revealed that she finds the current political climate in the United States “terrifying”, and called Trump’s administration “cartoonishly evil”.
“It’s horrifying what they’re doing, not only to the trans community, but also to migrants, to communities of colour, to so many marginalised communities that are being systematically targeted by the new administration and having protections revoked.”
Going on to speak of her own political views, Vivian referred to herself as a “leftist” who believes in universal basic income and free healthcare, and that wealth inequality as “one of the biggest problems of the United States right now”.
“I don’t feel like wealth should be hoarded by these mega-billionaires who are the top 1 per cent, who only have their own interests at heart. I’ve met some of these billionaires – they’re not very good people,” she said. “I don’t think any of them are.”
