The apple clearly doesn’t fall too far from the Woods family tree! Renowned professional golfer Tiger Woods’ 17-year-old daughter, Sam Alexis Woods, dominated on the soccer field on March 1 as her father proudly looked on from the stands, reports People.
Defender Sam, captain of the Benjamin School Buccaneers, of Palm Beach, Florida, led her team to the FHSAA Class 2A girls’ title; a delighted Tiger was spotted high-fiving others in the crowd.

While the 49-year-old golfer’s sporting career has undoubtedly slowed down in recent years, here’s a look at his daughter, who’s just getting started with hers.
Sam Woods’ name is a subtle tribute to her dad, Tiger Woods

Sam Alexis Woods was born on June 18, 2007, in Orlando, Florida. Sam’s name was inspired by the nickname her paternal grandfather gave to Woods, whose full name is Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods.
“My father had always called me Sam since the day I was born. He rarely ever called me Tiger,” the ESPY Award winner said in a 2007 press conference. “I would ask him, ‘Why don’t you ever call me Tiger?’ He says, ‘Well, you look more like a Sam.’”
Her parents split when she was a toddler

Woods and Nordegren welcomed Sam’s younger brother Charlie, now 16, in February 2009. A year later, the couple divorced after Woods’ extramarital affairs came to light.
In a 2015 interview with Time magazine, Woods opened up about being honest with his children about their parents’ separation, revealing, “I’ve taken the initiative with the kids and told them upfront, ‘Guys, the reason why we’re not in the same house, why we don’t live under the same roof, Mommy and Daddy, is because Daddy made some mistakes.’”
The former couple now co-parent their teenagers.
She’s supportive of her father

Woods was inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022, a year after he was involved in a car crash. Sam played a central role on her father’s big day, even delivering his introduction speech.
“We didn’t know if you’d come home with two legs or not,” she said. “Now, you’re not only about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but you’re standing here on your own two feet. This is why you deserve this. You’re a fighter, you’ve defied the odds every time.”
The experience was especially touching for the pro golfer, who posted on Instagram to share his thanks and a family photo featuring his mother Kultida, who passed away last month and now ex-girlfriend Erica Herman. He expressed his gratitude in the caption, writing, “I feel so honoured to have been inducted into the @golfhalloffame tonight. Having Sam introduce me and my family there watching, it made it even more special.”
She’s not interested in golf

Unlike her father, Sam prefers to kick a ball around rather than hit one. “They’re keen into soccer. If they want to play golf, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s fine, too. As long as they have a good time playing sports,” Tiger said of his children in a 2018 interview with Golf.com. He went on to say he gets “such a big kick” from witnessing their passion for soccer.
