Jason Bateman is all over Netflix this season, from playing the bad guy in thriller Carry On with Rocketman star Taron Egerton, to appearing in coming series Black Rabbit alongside Jude Law. But he admits he’d be a lot less prolific if it weren’t for his supportive wife, who takes care of their children while he’s away working on film projects for months at a time.

“She’s got a full-time career herself, and she’s able to be a full-time mum, and she’s almost a full-time dad too,” the Ozark star told press at the 2019 SAG Awards. “‘I’m just floored by that.”
So who exactly is Bateman’s wife of 21 years, Amanda Anka? Here’s what we know about her.
They were friends first – but his alcoholism was a problem

Amanda Anka, 56, and Bateman, 55, first met in 1988 at an ice hockey game in Los Angeles and quickly became good friends, per People. However, things might have progressed more quickly if it weren’t for the actor’s party boy lifestyle. “I just wasn’t into where he was at,” Anka told GQ in 2013, referring to Bateman’s excessive alcohol and drug use, which he eventually decided to deal with.

It wasn’t until 1997 that the pair finally began dating and the Arrested Development actor got sober. They married four years later in 2001.
Her dad is a famous singer

Anka’s mum is late Egyptian-born, Lebanese-English model Anne de Zogheb and her father the Canadian singer Paul Anka, who rose to fame in the 1960s as a teen idol with his songs “Puppy Love” and “Put Your Head on My Shoulder”.

Anka went on to write Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and Tom Jones’ “She’s a Lady”, among other hits. Paul and Anne had five daughters together, per People, with Amanda coming along second.
She’s a producer and actor

These days, Anka is best known as the Hollywood producer behind The Morning Show starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. But before that she was an actress herself, appearing in everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones and ER. She also took on voice acting roles in DC’s The Batman cartoon series and The Greatest Event in Television History.

Anka’s role as a producer of The Morning Show won’t come as a surprise to those who know that the show’s star and co-producer Jennifer Aniston is one of her besties. As is Friends actress Courteney Cox, for that matter.

The pals have been snapped at numerous birthday dinners together over the years, as well as on shopping trips and red carpets. Aniston even holidays with Bateman and Anka on occasion, and loves to post photos from their group escapades on Instagram.
She has two daughters with Bateman

Anka gave birth to her and Bateman’s first daughter, Francesca, in 2006. Six years later, the couple had Maple. When Francesca was two, she starred in a billboard campaign for Gap with her dad, per People. “Anyone who has a kid, when friends ask you if you have a picture, you go, ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’, and whip out your phone to show off. This was that times 10,” he told Elle magazine proudly. Last year, the two girls – now aged 13 and 18 – were spotted courtside at an LA Lakers basketball game alongside their dad and Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.
She admires Bateman for his sensitivity

In the 2013 GQ interview, Anka said she believes the secret to Bateman’s success as an actor has been because he’s not selling an image, but is “the Everyman’s guy”. When it came to winning her over though, it was all down to his personality. “He’s the most sensitive, generous man without being fragile, which is interesting to me,” she said.
