In October 2022, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge set the baseball world alight when he hit his 62nd home run towards the end of that year’s season. His efforts broke the previous record of 61 homers set by Yankees slugger Roger Maris in 1961.
Just two months earlier, during the off-season, the Yankees announced that they had finalised a new contract with Judge. The third-largest deal in the history of baseball would see Judge take home US$360 million over nine years.

At the press conference announcing Judge’s new contract, the Yankees shared that he would also become team captain, a position that had been vacant since team veteran Derek Jeter left in 2014. Judge later revealed that the Yankees’ managing general partner, Hal Steinbrenner, had floated the idea of the captaincy during contract negotiations in November. Despite being courted by other teams, including the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres, Judge said he and his wife, Samantha Bracksieck, decided they needed to be in “New York or nowhere”.

It was also Bracksieck who gave Judge the advice he needed to seal the deal on his new contract. While the pair were on their way to Hawaii to celebrate their anniversary, she suggested that Judge call the team and put his cards on the table by telling them he wanted to stay but needed a few more years on the contract. Steinbrenner quickly agreed – then added that he planned to make Judge Yankees captain.
So what do we know about Samantha Bracksieck, the woman who helped her husband land one of the most lucrative contracts in baseball history?
The couple grew up together

Bracksieck and Judge met at Linden High School in Linden, California, and were high school sweethearts. They later attended California’s Fresno State University together.
While Judge was busy hitting home runs for the Fresno State Bulldogs, Bracksieck studied kinesiology. Her focus was on sports injuries, with her master’s thesis focusing on elbow ligament injuries in Major League Baseball players.
She prefers to keep out of the limelight

Judge may have a very public profile, but he and Bracksieck like to keep their relationship under wraps. Fans will find few traces of the two on Judge’s social media accounts, and a quick search reveals no sign of an Instagram account belonging to Bracksieck.
The Yankees outfielder’s wife appears in one of his Instagram posts, showing the pair taking part in a 5K run on Thanksgiving in 2014. Her next appearance isn’t until July 2022, when they visited Los Angeles for an MLB All Star Game.
Even their nuptials were kept on the down low. The couple never officially announced their engagement – and their wedding, in December 2021, was an intimate ceremony in Hawaii. Fans didn’t find out about the wedding until paparazzi photos appeared in the Daily Mail.
She loves to stay active

It’s not just Judge who’s of a sporty bent. Bracksieck ran the New York City Marathon in 2022 and 2023. Both times, her supportive husband was waiting for her at the finish line.
Bracksieck is also eager to help others looking to get active. When Emily Rizzo, wife of Yankees player Anthony Rizzo, was preparing to run the 2023 NYC Marathon, Bracksieck offered plenty of support and advice. In an interview, Rizzo said, “I have gone to [Bracksieck] throughout this entire process and asked her a gazillion questions about what the day looks like, what I should be wearing, what headphones, what her training looks like … We’ve run together as well, and she’s really been a support system for me and given me a lot of good advice.”
The couple bonds over sport

Judge and Bracksieck don’t just love being active – they also love watching sport together. Whether they’re catching American football games at their alma mater, watching NBA games in New York, or attending tennis matches at the US Open, the two are often spotted together at sporting events.
They also enjoy sharing their passion for sport with friends. Besides being running buddies, Rizzo and Bracksieck have been spotted with their partners on double dates. The couples were caught on camera enjoying a match at the 2023 US Open.
She’s involved in the Aaron Judge All Rise Foundation

Bracksieck has been involved with various charitable endeavours, though she’s most active with her husband’s Aaron Judge All Rise Foundation. While she’s not a board member, she often attends the foundation’s events with Judge. In 2019, they visited a children’s hospital in California as part of the foundation’s mission to “inspire children and youth to become responsible citizens by engaging them in activities that encourage them to reach unlimited possibilities”.
