Laura Dern’s 19-year-old daughter Jaya Harper could be the next “mini-me” nepo baby to watch in 2024.

The teen, whom Dern shares with her ex-husband Ben Harper, has been attending high-profile events with her famous mum lately and hasn’t been shy to showcase some of her life on social media too.

Here’s what we know about the Gen Z celeb daughter – who’s already picked up a great sense of style:
Jaya Harper hails from a Hollywood family

Jaya Harper was born on November 28, 2004, in Los Angeles to her parents Laura Dern and Ben Harper. Her 57-year-old actress mum is famous for her starring roles in films and TV shows such as Jurassic Park, Big Little Lies, Marriage Story, Wild at Heart and Little Women, and is known to be besties with fellow actress Reese Witherspoon.

Jaya’s father Ben Harper, 54, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who plays an eclectic mix of musical genres from blues and folk to soul and reggae. Her parents were married from 2005 to 2013.

But it’s not just Jaya’s parents who are famous. Her maternal grandma, 88-year-old Diane Ladd, is also a Hollywood actress, appearing in films including Chinatown, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Meanwhile Jaya’s maternal grandfather is Bruce Dern, another actor who’s scored roles in films from Silent Running and The ‘Burbs to more recent roles in productions such as Quentin Tarantino’s 2015 film The Hateful Eight and 2023’s Old Dads with Bill Burr. Ben Harper’s mother Ellen is also a musician.
She looks up to her three older siblings

Jaya has three older siblings. She has one brother Ellery Walker Harper, 22, whom Dern shares with Ben Harper, and two half-siblings, Harris and Charles, from her dad’s prior marriage to Joanna Harper.

Jaya has spoken about how she’s close to all three of them. In a 2022 video interview with Gen Z magazine Our Era, she said she looks up to her three older siblings. “They’re all doing what they love,” she gushed, “They’re really, really, really hard workers and they’re incredible musicians as well.”
She wants to act and make music – like her parents

Harper made her feature length acting debut in 2021 in the film Teenage Emotions.
The budding Los Angeles-based actress told Our Era that her interests lie in music and acting. “I’m still wanting to make music, I’m definitely wanting to act,” she said.
She joins her mum at events

Harper has joined her mum as a plus-one to several incredible events that most youngsters could only dream of. In July 2023, Dern took her daughter to the Armani Privé runway show in Paris, per W Magazine.

Then in September, Dern showed off her daughter once again at a Chanel event in NYC where they were spotted hanging out with Katie Holmes and Sofia Coppola, as reported by British media. The dynamic duo also attended the Academy Museum Gala together in October 2022, per the source.

Harper has been photographed with Taylor Swift, who her mum described as the family’s “amazing buddy”.

She “loves therapy”

As documented in her Spilling the Tea video with Our Eras magazine, Harper is an advocate for mental health awareness. “I love therapy,” she said, “I’m doing it three times a week.”
When asked about how she’s doing in terms of her own mental health, she said, “It’s getting better, because I’ve started to put myself first which is something that I wasn’t able to do before,” she said, “And I started talking to people about my feelings”.
[I’m also] finding friends who truly care about me,” she added.
