Lily-Rose Depp’s latest TV drama show The Idol – which she stars in alongside The Weeknd – may be picking up heat from critics and on the internet, but away from the screens, the Chanel model seems not to have a care in the world – as she’s in love.

In a touching tribute last month, the daughter of actor Johnny Depp took to social media to express her deep affection for her girlfriend 070 Shake, referring to her as the “love of my life”.

Ever since publicly acknowledging their relationship in May, the pair has unabashedly displayed their affection for one another, engaging in copious PDAs, from restaurant outings to cute mirror selfies for the world to see.

Her real name

The rapper was born Danielle Balbuena in North Bergen, New Jersey, in 1997. Some of her nicknames include Dani, Shake and Yellow Girl. According to NJ.com, the 26-year-old was a basketball star at her North Bergen High School.
Her rapper name holds meaning too. Her record label Def Jam claims that “070 Shake” is a tribute to her city’s zip code and that she’s also a member of the New Jersey collective 070.
Her musical prowess

Balbuena made her music debut back in 2015 with the 070 music collective before going solo in 2018 with her debut EP Glitter. She’s since released two more albums, Modus Vivendi (2020) and You Can’t Kill Me (2022), and has opened for several big names in the industry including The 1975 and Kid Cudi. She’s also set to join Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres world tour later this year.

She’s worked with Kanye “Ye” West

It didn’t take long for industry giants like Kanye West to recognise her raw talent and start working with her. In 2016, the youngster signed with West’s label Good Music and went on to appear in music videos for Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband’s “Ghost Town” and “Violent Crimes” from the album Ye. The American artist is also signed with Def Jam.
She is not a fan of genre

070 Shake’s music is often labelled as hip-hop, but she resists being confined to any particular genre. “With me, any session I go into I want to be completely open, and not put me into a box,” she told Rolling Stone. “If you put me in a box, then I’m going to take myself out the box.”
Her inspirations include The Beatles, John Mayer and Kid Cudi as she favours artists with “feeling”.
She doesn’t identify as queer or gay

Before she started dating Depp, 070 Shake was romantically linked to model Sophia Diana Lodato and prior to that, singer Kehlani.
She told Pitchfork in an interview that she doesn’t categorise her sexuality. “I don’t really identify myself as queer or gay or anything. I just like girls.”
Has she met Johnny Depp yet?

Lily-Rose and 070 Shake ignited dating speculations earlier this year, but it was in May that they officially confirmed their relationship. Lily-Rose shared a photo on her Instagram showing them kissing, accompanied by the caption “four months [with] my crush”. Lily-Rose has previously been linked to Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler.

It remains uncertain whether Shake has met Lily-Rose’s well-known father. However, according to unverified sources, there are indications that he approves of the union. No stranger to fluidity, Depp himself was in an infamously rocky marriage with actress Amber Heard, who identified as bisexual.
