King Charles just got a whole lot richer.

While his recent crowning event – which included A-list guests like Tom Cruise and Lionel Richie – might have been lavish, it’s nothing compared to the humongous net worth that King Charles now has thanks to him ascending the throne.
Before he became a monarch, Charles’ fortune was said to be around US$100 million, as previously reported. But after the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, and his crowning, King Charles is now said to have a net worth of around US$2.3 billion, per The Guardian. This new figure is believed to surpass the queen’s fortune before her death, per CBS News.

Though the exact digits and labels of his billion-dollar assets are not publicly known, here are some of the items that are said to be in King Charles’ possession as of his coronation.

Queen Elizabeth’s US$500 million assets

After Queen Elizabeth’s passing, it’s estimated that Charles, 74, inherited around U$500 million worth of assets from his late mother, per Forbes. While the public doesn’t know exactly what he inherited, it’s speculated that this added fortune includes Queen Elizabeth’s personal investments, jewellery, real estate holdings and much more.
Horses, arts and stamps

The late queen clearly had an appreciation for horses. According to The Guardian, she owned about 70 thoroughbreds valued at US$34 million. The same report stated that Charles earned around US$3 million from selling some of the horses at auction after the death of his mother.
Meanwhile, Charles is also believed to have inherited the queen’s rare and priceless stamp collection, The Royal Philatelic. CBS News stated that it’s considered the best stamp collection in the world. The stamps come from different parts of the globe including Laos, Canada and many other nations, and are estimated to be worth at least US$125 million in total, per The Guardian.

If that wasn’t eye watering enough, King Charles will also acquire artwork from Monet, Chagall and Dalí, worth an estimated US$30 million, per the same source.

Properties

Being born into a family with some of the richest royals in the world means King Charles already has his fair share of eye-watering properties. According to Women’s Health Magazine, it’s estimated that he has at least 11 properties in his hold including palaces, castles and other residences.
One of them is the well-known Buckingham Palace, which is estimated to be worth nearly US$5 billion, according to Forbes. King Charles reportedly also owns Clarence House, Sandringham and Balmoral Castle, where the late queen died in 2022.

According to media, his current biggest sources of revenue are the Crown Estate and the Duchy of Lancaster. The latter is a private estate and doesn’t belong to the crown. It holds lands, separate properties and units as well as buildings and several retail, commercial and businesses properties, as per its website.

Media states that King Charles is now the new Duke of Lancaster, which means that he is entitled to the income that the estate and its separate properties bring.
Cars

The reigning monarch is said to be a big lover of cars and is believed to have 23 cars in his luxurious garage – but not all of them are privately owned, per The Guardian. That said, the ones he does own are said to be valued at a staggering US$8 million.

The wheels in his personal collection include Aston Martins, Jaguars, Bentleys and Land Rovers, per British media. Adding to that, King Charles is now the owner of his mother’s Rolls-Royce Phantom VI and the Bentley State Limousine, which were designed to symbolise the silver and golden jubilees of the queen, respectively, per Augustman. These two sets of supercars are counted among the most famous cars of world leaders, states the same source.
The Crown Jewels

A major source of wealth for the monarch and the royal family, and one that holds extreme value in their vault, are the Crown Jewels. These Crown Jewels consist of an array of rare and expensive diamonds, jewellery, crowns and sceptres, and other royal accessories.

The Crown Jewels have made appearances during both Charles’ and Elizabeth’s coronations, as well as other stately events. While the Crown Jewels will shine brightly in his jewellery box during his reign, King Charles is said to have inherited a private collection from his late mother worth hundreds of millions of dollars, per Elle.
