Daniel Radcliffe is going to be a dad – feel old yet?
After all, it seems like it wasn’t too long ago that the Harry Potter icon was waving wands and making potions on the mega franchise that many of us grew up watching.

In late March, People reported that Radcliffe and his long-time girlfriend Erin Darke are expecting their first child. The news was confirmed by Radcliffe’s rep. Despite being together for almost a decade, the couple has kept their relationship low-key and out of the public eye with just a few red-carpet appearances.
Here’s everything you need to know about Darke, the talented actress who is about to become a mum.
Daniel Radcliffe and Erin Darke have been together for over a decade

According to multiple sources, the expecting parents first met over a decade ago on the set of the film Kill Your Darlings (2013) in which they played love interests.

Radcliffe, 33, and Darke, 38, hit it off and began dating. While they’ve kept their relationship largely private, they have worked together on several occasions since their initial meeting. In 2016, they co-starred in the film Don’t Think Twice and in the third season of Radcliffe’s TBS series Miracle Workers (2019).

The two also share the same view on fame: it can be weird. Darke told Vulture in 2020, “Dating a famous person teaches you very quickly that s*** is weird sometimes. People are weird with fame sometimes.”
Meanwhile, Radcliffe, who grew up under massive spotlight thanks to his role in the Harry Potter franchise, also once said that he doesn’t want fame for his kids.
“I want my kids, if and when they exist … I would love them to be around film sets. Film sets are wonderful places. I think a lot of the time it can be wonderful for kids. But it’s really the fame side of it that should be avoided at all costs,” he told Newsweek.
Darke has an eclectic showbiz career, too

Having graduated with a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Michigan-Flint in 2005, the American actress has had a varied film career so far. In an interview with her alma mater, however, Darke revealed that she worked in a casting office upon moving to New York after graduation. She also said she recognised the importance of learning about the entertainment industry before fully committing to a career as a professional actress.

“After a few years in New York doing tiny plays no one saw, I realised that there was a lot I didn’t know about the other side of the industry, so I started doing an internship at a casting office [Chrystie Street Casting]. They liked me and before I knew it, I was working there full-time,” she said.

Darke started out in a small role in the 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin and went on to star in acclaimed TV shows, playing Cindy in Good Girls Revolt (2015), Mary in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017) and Leeta in the AMC series Dietland (2018). She was recently seen in a Canadian TV show Moonshine (2021) available on Amazon Freevee.
On the film front, she has also been in Oscar-nominated film Still Alice and the Beach Boys biopic Love & Mercy.
They have nothing but praise for each other

The lovebirds have never been hesitant to express their affection for one another during interviews, too. In fact, they have frequently praised each other’s work and relationship. Darke once stated to People magazine in 2018 that Radcliffe has been incredibly supportive of her career.
“One of the first things we bonded over was how much we really love what we do and there’s something that’s really beautiful and really lovely about being with someone who just innately understands that about you,” she said, adding, “He helps me make self-tapes sometimes. He’s a great reader, by the way. We’re both incredibly supportive of the other person’s career.”

Meanwhile, her beau said back in 2014 that their relationship was the type he had always dreamed of having. “You want that person to be your best friend. In the case of Erin, we definitely are,” he told Us Weekly. Aww!

She is a fantasy football enthusiast

Standing at a svelte 170cm tall, Darke also has a passion for sports that began in childhood. She has also described herself as a “devoted Red Wings fan” and “fantasy football enthusiast” on her Twitter bio.
Radcliffe also mentioned in a 2018 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers that his girlfriend shares his love for sports, specifically the Detroit Lions. “My girlfriend is from Michigan, so there’s always a Lions game on Thanksgiving,” he revealed.

In 2016, The Lost City star also said in an interview with Vanity Fair Italia that he has put on some muscle since he began dating Darke. However, it seems that his workout routine is not as intense as it may appear: “We can’t even go shopping or enjoy an ice cream without being hounded by paparazzi. We don’t necessarily work out excessively, but whenever we do, we always seem to get photographed.”

They do nerdy things and watch reality shows together

In 2020, Radcliffe told Radio Times magazine that, growing up, he did a lot of nerdy things that he thought he would never be able to do around a girl – but Darke turned out to be an exception. “That’s the wonderful thing about the moment you find the relationship you’re meant to be in,” he said. “It’s like, ‘Oh, I can do all of that stuff and you don’t mind. And you actually think it’s fun, too. This is fantastic!’”
Besides doing nerdy activities together, Radcliffe and Darke are also big fans of reality shows. He shared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022 that Darke is the reason he now watches reality TV without irony. “Initially, Erin got me into it, but now I have to admit that I’m also like, ‘Hey, do you want to watch Love Is Blind?’” he shared.

While no wedding bells have been announced yet, the power couple seems to be in a good place – after 10 years of being together. “I’ve got a really nice life. I’ve been with my girlfriend for a decade, pretty much. We’re really happy,” Radcliffe told People magazine. And we wish them nothing but more happiness!
