Brooklyn Beckham’s star-studded wedding to Nicola Peltz on April 9 united the who’s who of showbiz, but it was undoubtedly Victoria Beckham’s Spice Girls bandmates who had fans waiting in anticipation.

The five Spice Girls, the best selling girl group in history, were last photographed together in February 2018 during a secret gathering at Ginger Spice Geri Horner’s home, and a lot has happened since then.

The band went on a highly successful tour without Victoria, who chose not to attend. And, of course, things have been a bit rocky between Victoria and Scary Spice Mel B in recent years, who publicly declared she was “disappointed” and “upset” by Posh’s no-show at the concerts.

But if the Beckhams’ lavish showbiz wedding this week was anything to go by, it seems things have changed between the bandmates in recent years. Here’s why the Spice Girls’ attendance at Brooklyn’s wedding was a big deal …
Born into the Spice family

Back at the height of the Spice Girls’ fame, Victoria and Mel B both got pregnant during their world tour in 1998. Posh gave birth to Brooklyn in March 1999 while Scary had her daughter Phoenix a few weeks prior in February. Needless to say, the Spice children grew up closely together, and even joined their famous mothers on tour including for their reunion in 2007.

During their 2007 concerts, four of the five singers had become mothers and invited their children on stage while they performed their hit song Mama. Since then the Spice Girls family has remained close, sharing many special and close occasions over the years, including David’s 40th in Morocco and Brooklyn’s 21st birthday in London.

The first Spice Girl to be spotted at the Beckham extravaganza was Sporty Spice Melanie C, who attended with her daughter Scarlet and wore a trendy yellow pantsuit.

Throughout the years, Sporty has remained fiercely close to the Beckhams, often wearing Victoria’s designs on the red carpet. The Beckham family have also supported Melanie C’s solo music career, sharing plenty of shout outs on their social media accounts.

Brooklyn even recently shared a photo of his mum with Melanie C on the day that Posh and Becks met on his Instagram account. “Love Mel C! Check out her new album,” he commented.
Mel B cracked an unexpected invite

The biggest surprise appearance at the wedding was undoubtedly Scary Spice Mel B, who wore a jewel-encrusted gold Union Jack gown.

While the Spice Girls have had their ups and downs with one another over the years, the tension between Scary and Posh has been most evident recently. In 2018, Mel B repeatedly added fuel to the fire when she promised fans a Spice Girls reunion tour, which put pressure on Victoria to join. At the time, a source told The Sun: “Victoria and her team see Mel as a loose cannon, who just says anything about the Spices, true or not, to get attention.”

Mel B revealed in a 2012 interview: “We fight, we argue, we make up. It’s always been like that. It’s been like that with all five of us over the years.”
“We might not speak for a week or so but then we get back on Skype and sort our s*** out,” she added.

Clearly they have managed to sort out their differences, because Mel B managed to crack an invite to the showbiz wedding of the year, much to fans’ surprise.
Emma Bunton couldn’t make it

Baby Spice Emma Bunton is still close to the Beckhams, but was unable to attend the wedding due to prior commitments.

However, the 46-year-old Spice Girl shared snaps of herself with the happy couple on Instagram hours before they exchanged vows. She wrote: “These two beautiful souls are getting married today! I’m so sorry I couldn’t make it there to celebrate you both.”

She added: “We love you all very much. @victoriabeckham @davidbeckham try not to cry too much!”
Where was Geri Horner?

The only mystery Spice guest is Ginger Spice Geri Horner, whose attendance at the nuptials is currently still unconfirmed officially.

Horner has remained close to the Beckhams and attended Brooklyn’s 21st birthday celebrations in 2020, so it was expected that she would make an appearance at the wedding. However, with her Formula One boss hubby Christian Horner working the Australian Grand Prix the same weekend, Ginger reportedly flew down with him as a source told The Sun, “Geri has been accompanying Christian where possible on all of his work trips.”

Is this the beginning of a five-piece Spice Girls reunion?

After the Spice Girls’ sell-out stadium shows in 2019, the iconic band are in talks to reunite again. And if all goes well, Victoria might even join them.
Melanie C told Britain’s Lorraine talk show: “It’s been rumoured a lot, but we do constantly talk about getting back on stage because the shows in 2019 were incredible. We’d love to do it again once the world allows.”
“I know Mrs Beckham would love to do Glastonbury,” she teased.
With three Spice Girls already reunited at Brooklyn’s wedding, it seems a full line-up reunion isn’t such a far stretch after all.
