From working on cookbooks and TV shows to starring in American Eagle’s Give Great Jeans holiday campaign, Martha Stewart remains America’s beloved homemaker and mogul.
“This holiday season, we’re settling for nothing less than a perfect fit,” Stewart says before expertly wrapping a gift in denim, in an Instagram video shared by the brand at the end of November.

At 84, she continues to glow with a radiant complexion that defies age. Her secret? A simple skincare routine, plenty of sleep and decades of daily discipline. Here’s an in-depth look at her beauty secrets.
Don’t slack off on beauty sleep

Actress Betty White once said, “Get at least eight hours of beauty sleep, nine if you’re ugly.” While White was probably half-joking, Stewart swears by adequate sleep and believes it’s “your best ally in rejuvenating your skin”, according to an article published on MarthaStewart.com. “Seven to eight uninterrupted hours are optimal.”
To prep for a good night’s rest, the star likes to start winding down an hour before bedtime by swapping out stress-inducing activities for knitting or reading a book. She also likes to start her day bright and early, often as early as 4am, leaving space for mindful rituals such as skincare masks, crossword puzzles and more.
A simple skincare routine

According to Stewart’s dermatologist Dhaval Bhanusali, the cookbook author’s day-to-day skincare routine is simple. She starts off with a morning sheet mask custom made for her needs, followed by Clé de Peau Beauté’s Eye Contour Supreme, Alastin’s HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 mixed with moisturiser, and a few spritzes of Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray throughout the day.

Bhanusali also highlighted that Stewart prioritises sun protection as she’s constantly on her farm, and avoids exfoliating her skin. Ahead of a big event, she opts for a Laser Genesis treatment and Bhanusali’s Aesthetica Facial.
A healthy lifestyle

Aside from her skincare routine, Stewart also ensures she has a balanced and healthy lifestyle. According to her website, she swears by her green juice made with fresh produce from her farm: “I make a blend of whatever fresh produce is on hand, much of which I grow at the farm. One of my favourite combinations is spinach, cucumber, parsley, chervil, fresh ginger and orange peel.”
She also ensures she gets an hour of exercise every morning. “It’s as if I’ve signed a contract with myself to wake up and get on the treadmill and lift weights. It’s non-negotiable,” she said.
Her own skincare line

Earlier this September, Stewart launched her own skincare line, Elm Biosciences, with her dermatologist Bhanusali. The skincare brand took five years to launch, and came after Bhanusali created a custom formula for Stewart years ago.
“She had this custom topical that no one else had – and I know everyone hates the word gatekeeping, but she thought people would get mad that she was using something they had no access to,” Bhanusali said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “Elm was always a concept for us; we wanted Elm to be a community where people with mature skin would be able to talk to each other.”

Bhanusali has also previously formulated products for brands like Hailey Bieber’s Rhode.
