Got plans for Hong Kong’s July 1 public holiday next week?
If you’re looking for a place to go, here are five cute cafes in which to spend the afternoon, offering things like Jellycat-themed sets and DIY painted cakes.
Read on to find out more.
1. Ukiyo
British soft-toy brand Jellycat has become very popular in recent years and their signature plush toys, or plushies, can be seen both on social media and as keychains on the bags of every other person on the street.
Some enterprising cafes have started to incorporate the brand’s charming designs into their food and drink items. The hashtags #jellycatcoffee and #jellycatcoffeecups collectively have over 8 million views on RedNote, a Chinese social media platform also known as Xiaohongshu.
Ukiyo, a cafe in Tsim Sha Tsui’s K11 Musea shopping centre, has collaborated with children’s store Hanna Scallop to launch a Jellycat-themed menu, available until July.

From 11am each day, diners can enjoy special drinks, including caramel honeycomb latte, matcha pistachio milkshake and mochi pistachio ice cream, served in glasses or cups that feature the plushies’ signature cheery face.
The new set breakfast features a range of pastries, including cinnamon buns, that look like they could be Jellycat plushies themselves.
The special menu has attracted plenty of attention on social media.
“When I saw the Jellycat-related dishes and drinks, I went to try them, although I [knew] the price [was] a bit higher,” said one user on Hong Kong dining guide platform OpenRice.
The cafe has also set up a Jellycat plushies exhibition in-store, allowing consumers to admire these adorable items while they eat.

2. Hashtag Coffee

A recent RedNote post titled “I spent HK$10 in a Hong Kong coffee shop to get a cute, lively Usagi on my coffee” received many comments asking for the shop’s address.
That coffee shop is Hashtag Coffee, a cafe in Sai Ying Pun founded by coffee lover Jack Lee Kam-wo, who took second place in the 2014 Coffee Fest Latte Art World Championship in New York.
He accepts special latte art requests, and consumers can pay an additional HK$10 (US$1.30) to add a personalised pattern to their coffee.
At the cafe, one wall displays more than 20 different latte art designs, with the most popular character being Usagi from the Chiikawa manga and anime series.
“Latte art makes every cup of coffee slightly different, and this is the most direct way for me to interact with consumers,” Lee said in an interview on OpenRice.

3. Sleepless

Similar to Hashtag Coffee, Sleepless also attracts many consumers through its unique latte art.
This pet-friendly cafe in Sai Kung – which ran a latte art workshop at the recent Coffee HK x Tokyo Coffee Festival at West Kowloon’s Art Park – is best known for its 3D latte art offerings, creating adorable cartoon figures by sculpting milk foam into shapes adorned with colourful lines and facial expressions.

4. The Old Book Store

“This is my painting board” might sound like a cheesy line from a film, but it is also the name of a special set on the menu at The Old Book Store in Causeway Bay.
The painting board in question is actually a white cheesecake mousse that allows customers to create their own masterpieces, with five to six colours of “paint” made with chocolate, plus an array of rainbow cream candy decorations provided by the store.
“The process of designing an exceptional cake from scratch is novel but healing, and it gives me the feeling that I’m a famous artist creating new pieces,” said a customer on RedNote.

5. Relieve

Relieve is an absolute must-visit for cat lovers. Located in Sheung Wan, the space exudes a Japanese Showa-era (1926-1989) vibe thanks to its warm colours and simple geometric patterns.
The cafe’s signature is an adorable edible cat, made from royal icing, that is delicately placed on top of coffee or other speciality drinks.
The cat is rendered in different outfits and poses, and unique designs are released for special festivals.
The cafe offers a selection of Japanese dishes, including purple sweet potato croquettes, mentaiko chicken wings and sake-steamed clams.
